During his training, Iori hears of numerous exploits by the current heir to the Kusanagi, Kyo. One of them is his entrance into the King of Fighters tournament, for he is brought to the battle by Billy Kane, who forces him to enter by exploiting the name of Kyo. However, the team fails to defeat the Hero Team, which makes Iori betray his teammates. The next year, Iori teams up with two women, Vice and Mature, servants of the Orochi. In the course of the competition, he eventually faces the Kyo. However, the ensuing fight was brief; Chizuru Kagura of the Yata clan quickly takes his rival away to confront the threat of the impending Orochi. Iori immediately follows Kyo, and finds him fighting against the Orochi soldier Goenitz. Iori decides to help his rival to defeats Goenitz in order to continue their fight later. When Iori leaves with his teammates, he is unable to control this surge of Orochi power, resulting in their deaths. Iori continued to suffer from multiple outbreaks of the Riot of Blood and enters in the next King of Fighters tournament of 1997 as a single entry.

Immediately after entering his curse again, Iori finds himself along with Chizuru and Kyo confronted by the 3 last servants of Orochi, who are meant to revive him. When thet are defeated, Orochi himself awakes in the body of Chris. Orochi causes Iori to enter the Riot of Blood state, expecting that he would turn on his allies. However, Iori grabs Orochi by the neck, allowing Kyo Kusanagi to defeat Orochi and Chizuru reseal him.

Shortly after discovering the creation of clones of Kyo, Iori begins to suspect that the person responsible for cloning Kyo might be in the tournament. Iori follows the battles from the shadows, and eventually finds an abandoned warehouse where Krizalid fought the New Hero Team and Kyo. The next year, an agent named Seth invites Iori to join his team for the next King of Fighters tournament, under the presumption that he would get his shot against Kyo if he enters. However, in climax of the tournament, he assists K' and Kyo in besting Igniz, the boss of NESTS. He later escapes the destruction of the station before its impact with Earth.

In The King of Fighters 2003, Iori teams up again with Kyo and Chizuru to investigate suspicious events conserning the Orochi seal. After their battle with Mukai, Ash Crimson steals Chizuru's powers. In KOF XI, Iori teamed up with Kyo and Shingo Yabuki in hopes of opposing Ash. At the end of the tournament, the strengthening presence of Orochi caused Iori to enter the Riot of Blood, in which he attacks Kyo and Shingo. Ash Crimson appears after that and defeats Iori stealing his powers.

Leona Heidern (???I?i?E?n?C?f????, Reona Haiderun) is a character introduced in The King of Fighters '96 as the new member to the Ikari Team. Before production for her debut game began, developers wanted to create a suitable replacement for Heidern as a part of the game's overhaul. Leona was conceived to be an Orochi descendant by the time of her debut and her designers took special care to let their interests at the time reflect in her actions. Leona is also a playable character in "Metal Slug Survivors" and "Metal Slug Soldiers" -both mobile games, the hand-held game SNK Gals' Fighters, and the crossover title SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium and has her own character image album.

Leona is very quiet and does not like to talk much. She seems fearless on the outside, but she is afraid of hurting her friends because of her Orochi blood. Leona hates the sight of blood, but when she fights, she always seems to get covered in it. She's often lonely, but knows that Ralf, Whip, and Clark are always behind her. She shares several moves with her adoptive father, Heidern. While she is experiencing the Riot of The Blood in KOF97 her hair turns pink and her eyes are white, however in KOF98 during the Riot of Blood in one of her attacks her hair is red instead of pink. She has the ability to move and jump faster than normal. She retains all of her moves, but can generally execute and recover from them quicker.
